BLG Academy

In 2012, BLG Logistics established the BLG Academy in Vance, Alabama. BLG Academy is our own training program in cooperation with high schools in and around the area which has continued to grow to this day. The participating students receive instruction in supply chain management, warehouse operations, procurement, health and safety, and workplace essentials. The students not only have theory classes twice a week at school but also commute to the BLG Logistics warehouse to perform hands-on training three times a week.

Over the past three years 100 students completed the BLG Academy which helped them receive two credit hours toward high school graduation. By collaborating with the German American Chamber of Commerce, BLG Logistics was also able to award graduates with both a U.S. and German-equivalent certificate. After completion the students have the opportunity of working for BLG Logistics or other logistics providers.

Apart from this certificate BLG Logistics also makes it possible for those students and current employees to participate in a Short Certificate program, also known as the Warehouse Logistics Program. Warehouse Logistics is a 21 credit hour, two semester program designed to prepare individuals for managing and coordinating all logistics functions. Students enrolled in the program will receive classroom instruction at one of four community colleges and learn practical, on the job applications.

BLG Logistics recently reached out to the Appalachian Regional Commission, which provides financial aid for students seeking to improve their career credentials in the automotive industry, to gain funding for the development of the program. BLG Logistics received a letter with great news that they will be provided with sixty scholarships. This opportunity will provide 100% funding for tuition to obtain the Short Certificate in Warehouse Logistics.
