BLG LOGISTICS creates 170 new jobs in Bremerhaven

01-27-2018

On the basis of the works council agreement signed today by the works council of BLG AutoTerminal Bremerhaven and BLG LOGISTICS, up to 170 new employees will be hired at BLG AutoTerminal Bremerhaven in the next months. For the first time ever, about 100 of the new jobs will be part of a recently adopted part-time employment model that offers family and care-friendly shift times and a shift length of six hours.

Udo Klöpping, Personnel Manager of BLG LOGISTICS, commented: “This agreement makes it possible for us to create new, attractive jobs at the harbor, especially for women, and to increase the number of women on staff.” Klaus Pollok, Chairman of the Works Council of the Bremerhaven car terminal, emphasized: “The works council has been working towards improving the compatibility of work and family life for a long time. The agreement that was signed today is a big step in the right direction for us.”

The agreement will initially be valid only for a fixed term to assess whether the targeted objectives can be achieved. The new jobs will be filled in close cooperation with the Federal Employment Agency in Bremerhaven. The demand for part-time employment is high there. The employment conditions of these jobs are all protected by collective agreement. Dieter Schumacher, Labor Director of BLG LOGISTICS, explained, “For a growing number of employees and those seeking employment, the compatibility of work and family life has become a criterion in deciding for or against a company. This measure will make it possible for BLG LOGISTICS to strengthen its reputation as an attractive employer.”
